Hard Wax V. Sugaring: The results are in!

What do you think about sugaring?

I get this question a lot. Here are my thoughts:

Hard wax and sugaring are both excellent for hair removal, pulling hair from the follicle by the root. The main difference is in application and removal.

Hard Wax:

  • Applied with a stick in the direction of hair growth.
  • Removed against hair growth.
  • Minimum hair length: 1/4".
  • Can handle hair up to 5" or more.

Sugaring:

  • Applied with a gloved hand against hair growth.
  • Removed in the direction of hair growth.
  • Minimum hair length: 1/16".
  • More uncomfortable on longer hair.

Both methods offer a comfortable experience, especially for Brazilians. Sugaring can be better for short, ingrown hairs if the follicle is open.

I tried sugaring for 18 months but struggled with the technique, often changing gloves and wasting product. My clients were fine with either method, but I chose to stick with hard wax, where I felt more confident and efficient.

Ultimately, both are great options. It comes down to personal preference for both the technician and client.
